\"\"<\/span>Fondata dalla contessa Matilde tra 1076 e 1092, con costruzione del monastero in un periodo di poco successivo, aveva ricevuto dotazioni terriere dalla contessa e i suoi eremiti erano in numero tale da costituire una comunit\u00e0 religiosa prospera e autorevole. Rapidamente il monastero di Marola si consolid\u00f2 acquisendo altre propriet\u00e0 fondiarie su un\u2019area assai estesa, anche al di fuori della montagna. La struttura muraria della chiesa fu soggetta nei secoli a radicali ristrutturazioni che ne mutarono completamente l\u2019aspetto originario. Nel 1754 l\u2019ennesima ristrutturazione aveva ridotto la chiesa a una sola navata a croce latina. Solo nel 1955 venne avviato un processo di restauro e ricostruzione che ha ripristinato il complesso nella sua struttura primitiva. L\u2019Abbazia mostra una facciata a capanna con un portale a tutto sesto, strombato, caratterizzato da esili semicolonne sormontate da capitelli fogliati in arenaria valestrina. L\u2019edificio sacro \u00e8 orientato liturgicamente. Il \u201cpalazzo\u201d \u00e8 arricchito da due chiostri interni mentre, all\u2019esterno, a est, restano i torrioni circolari. Nel palazzo adiacente, sede del seminario, si notano ampie tracce dell\u2019antica costruzione che fu propriet\u00e0 nel tempo dei Fontanelli, degli Amorotti e dei Sabbatini.<\/p>\n

The abbey was founded by the countess Matilde di Canossa between 1076 and 1092, and the nearby monastery was built a few years later.<\/em><\/div>\n
Matilde di Canossa had given the abbey a good amount of land and its monks were a respected and important religious community.<\/em><\/div>\n
Shortly the monastery of Marola became more and more important and acquired more lands on a larger area, even beyond the mountains.<\/em><\/div>\n
During the centuries the church went through many deep interventions on its walls and structures, that ended up changing the original features of the building.<\/em><\/div>\n
In 1754 the church was left with only one nave and the shape of a latin cross.<\/em><\/div>\n
In 1955 a restoration gave the church back its original shape: the abbey has a fa\u00e7ade \u201c a capanna\u201d-the two pitches roof that gives the main facace the triangular ending typical of romanic architecture- and an arch shaped portal with thin columns and capital with carved leaves made out of valestrina sandstone, a typical stone of this area.<\/em><\/div>\n
The palace has two internal cloisters and round towers are left on the external east side.<\/em>
\nIn the other building, home of the Seminary, it is possible to notice some conspicuous signs of the more ancient\u00a0previous structure that used to be property of some important families in the history of this area, Fontanelli, Amorotti and Sabbatini.<\/em><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\r\n
